They're not bad given the hardware limitations, and Metal Slug Advance is notoriously difficult, even moreso since enemies respawn if you return back even a little.

I'd hate to recommend emulating those, but good luck finding those. The first two were released on the Neo-Geo Pocket Color and the third was on the Game Boy Advance. The only ones left are Metal Slug: 1st Mission, Metal Slug: 2nd Mission, and Metal Slug Advance. Metal Slug Defense is no longer updated, since Metal Slug Attack is a follow-up to that game and it's still receiving new content. I haven't tried out Metal Slug Infinity yet.

If you're into mobile gaming, Metal Slug Defense, Metal Slug Attack, and Metal Slug Infinity are all free to play, but they're probably available worldwide. No need to ask about Metal Slug 3D, because I have never played it nor wish to play it in the near future. Since Metal Slug XX is an enhanced version of Metal Slug 7, I dunno what has changed as I never played that version.

But there is no screen filter options and full screen looks butt ugly. I think either one plays fine, I've not come across any issues. If you get it on PS4, it will come with all the DLC (Leona as a playable character), Xbox 360 will need a seperate purchase. Now the lone one left of the main series is Metal Slug XX, which I also have on Xbox One, but it's an Xbox 360 game that's backward compatible. The ACA NEOGEO versions should be the same across all platforms. But this is not from poor emulation, that's just exactly like how they originally played. Since these are the exact same as the arcade versions, some of them have some slowdown (most notable is Metal Slug 2). Now before I got that collection, I had gotten a few of the ACA NEOGEO versions on Xbox One whenever they went on sale, dunno about when and if they go on sale in the Nintendo eShop. I'm not too picky about frames per second or none of that mess.

I tried out a few of the others out, they're more than playable. Hey, I recently bought the Metal Slug Anthology on PS4, mainly for Metal Slug 6, which isn't available any other way on current gen consoles.
